WA Aero Expo 2008

Aero Expo date is 13 - 15 June 2008

John Sheehan, Secretary General of IAOPA, meets the Chief of the Hellenic Air Force (HAF) General Staff Mr. Ioannis Yagos

  • Tatoi Airport will host the events of the 24th IAOPA World Assembly, Athens 2008

With a recent decision of the Ministry of National Defense and the Hellenic Air Force, ΑΟΡΑ Hellas will be able to use Tatoi Airport for ten days (6-16 June 2008) in order to host the events of the 24th IAOPA World Assembly. More specifically:

  1. All Greek and foreign aircrafts visiting Athens to attend the World Assembly events will be granted free access to Tatoi airport as well as unlimited overnight stays during the World Assembly (6-16 June 2008). The events that will take place at Tatoi airport are as follows:
  2. The 1st Greek AERO Exhibition for Business and General Aviation with international exhibitors.
  3. Air Show (demo Flights) with the participation of civil and military aircraft
  4. Initiation flights sponsored by Air BP
  5. Seminars for pilots with key note speakers including Phil Boyer, Hellenic Air Force representatives, Air Safety Foundation experts as well as several international instructors.
  6. Free access to the Hellenic Air Force Museum and the M. Kyriakou museum
  7. Other happenings to be announced

The abovementioned events have been made possible thanks to the organizational support of the HAF, the contributions of Sponsors and the active involvement of the entire Aviation family.

On 18 September 2007 John Sheehan, Secretary General of IAOPA, visited Athens for two days where he met with the World Assembly Athens 2008 Organizing Committee and visited the venues where the events will take place.

His visit culminated with a visit at the Ministry of National Defense -a few hours only before the new government took office- where he met with Air Force Lieutenant General Yagos, Chief of the HAF General Staff. The two men exchanged views with regard to the 2008 events, putting Tatoi airport at the disposal of the World Assembly, the involvement of HAF in the organization as well as to the potential for world wide promotion of the Athens World Assembly. They also discussed other General Aviation issues and HAF’s contributing to their solution. John Sheehan said he could not praise HAF’s decision and support too much and said this is a fabulous contribution to General Aviation in general and to ΙΑΟΡΑ in particular.

During the conclusion of his visit, John Sheehan thanked Ms Marina Zompanaki, the president of the Organizing Committee, for the progress achieved until today and expressed confidence for the success of the Conference and the events of the 24th IAOPA World Assembly.

Μrs. Youli Kalafati, President of AOPA Hellas, asked me to confirm the
interest of Association of Greek Tourist Enterprises(SETE)Greece to host the
IAOPA World Assembly in 2008.

AOPA Hellas is a valuable member of SETE and it's doing a great job to
promote the interest of general aviation and tourism  in our country.

Dear Phil,

It has been a while since we met in Athens where your presence, support and advice really boosted our resolve to continue our own efforts in promoting General Aviation. I was very pleased to hear from our mutual good friend Yiouli Kalafati that Greece is a candidate country for hosting the IAOPA World Assembly in 2008.

 

Aegean Airlines cannot be far away from such an event, as we are a direct result of the determination and creativity that exists within General Aviation. If Greece is finally selected, I am certain that the IAOPA Conference will constitute a huge boost of all the excellent efforts of AOPA Greece and Yiouli Kalafati personally, not only towards the public, but also towards the Greek authorities involved. I am also certain that the environment and hospitality that is standard in Greece will help in everyone having a great time.
